This Peanut Butter Apple Crisp combines two of my favorite foods, apples and peanut butter. Crisp, tart apples plus a crumbly, cookie-like topping make an incredible pairing for this autumnal dessert!
Apples and peanut butter are snack time BFFs. Sweet apples plus salty peanut butter; crunchy apples plus smooth peanut butter - this is a flavor and texture dream team. I figured if these two foods play so well together, why couldn’t I add peanut butter to a classic apple crisp?
I added peanut butter to both the filling and the topping in this Peanut Butter Apple Crisp. This recipe works best with a runny peanut butter, so it can easily coat the diced apples. The filling is sweetened with a little honey, because if peanut butter has another BFF in the flavor world, it’s honey. Peeling the apples for the filling is optional - I don’t bother. I like the added texture (and fiber!) from the peels, but if you want a softer, more classic crisp, by all means peel your apples.
The crumbly crisp topping is almost like a peanut butter oatmeal cookie. It’s craggy but tender, and the oats add an extra texture element that’s chewy and satisfying. The only thing that makes this Peanut Butter Apple Crisp better is serving it warm, topped with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream!
